[Aerial view photograph, featuring Grundy Library in foreground]
Grundy Library featured in the foreground, left-center along the river, built in 1966. The house to the right of the library formerly belonged to Thomas Cooper, English actor whose daughter married President John Tyler’s son Robert. Across from the library, slightly to the left, is St. Mark's School, now torn down.

"Delaware River, Bristol, PA"
Tallest building under construction is the Elks Home at Radcliffe and Walnut Street. The corner stone was laid in 1910 and the Elks building demolished in 1981. To the right of the Elks is a house which has been removed. The Bristol Water Works (stand pipe and smoke stack are removed) is on the right. The house between the Elks building and the Water Works was called the Blackwood House. The Bristol Free Library was moved into this building in 1916. After World War I, the library was moved to the former Red Cross Building, now the parking lot for the Grundy Library at Dorrance and Radcliffe Streets.

The library opened in 1966. On this side at Dorrance and Radcliffe Street was the former site of the Bristol Free Library. Mary A. Wilkinson was the last librarian at that location. The portion of the building towards Cedar Street was used by the Red Cross. Joseph R. Grundy had the building erected circa 1917 as a community house.

[Joseph R. Grundy bust on the grounds of the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library]
This bronze bust of Joseph R. Grundy stands on the grounds of the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library. Mr. Grundy was a M. S. Senator, Borough Councilman, wealthy industrialist, and philanthropist. Upon his death he established the Grundy Foundation giving back to his community by directing that his Bristol town house become a museum of local history. There is a library for public use in memory of his sister Margaret. Bristol artist Joseph E. Pavone created this sculpture. It was presented by the Lion’s Club of Bristol.

The amusement park on the island burned in 1934. This was followed by people building “summer homes” on the island. These homes did not have proper water and sewage systems. By the 1970s, the City of Burlington had closed the island to summer dwellers and the houses were removed.
