From Harold & Carol Mitchener: "This was probably the blizzard on March 14, 1914. Transportation was paralyzed. Eighty mile-per-hour winds caused havoc. There were 127 poles blown across the tracks between Bristol and North Philadelphia. Telephone service was off, and river and trolley service stopped. Note the stalled train." -

Photo believed to have been taken opposite the present Harriman Station of Bristol near Taft and Barry Place. This storm was the worst since the blizzard of 1888. There were 127 poles blown across the tracks between Bristol and North Philadelphia. Telephone service was off, and river and trolley service stopped. The former Bristol Patent Leather Company would have been located behind the trains in the picture. -

“Lincoln Sign” in Bristol, PA opposite the Municipal Building at Pond and Mulberry Streets. Pennsylvania Railroad’s main route between 1834 and 1910 passed here. In 1910-1911, the line was moved and elevated through the town. This is now about ½ mile north of this spot. The area behind had been the freight yard. In the distance is the town’s public elementary school. There is an approximately 30-50 feet of track left as part of the memorial. Spurline Park runs the length of the town on the ground occupied the last spur line of the railroad at street level. The Lincoln Sign” is along that route. -

Located along the former path of the PA Railroad before it was elevated. Purchased after 1887, the mill manufactured men’s worsted fabrics. The mill was located between Washington and Lafayette Street along the canal. -

The Pennsylvania Railroad crosses the photo. The white water tower on the upper right is next to the Lower Bucks County Hospital (opened in 1954). On the upper left is an underpass at the elevated railroad under which Route 413 passes. Schmidt’s Greenhouses (1895-2013) are in a diagonal line between the water tower and the freight train. -

Main Street (Mill Street) looking towards the Delaware River. There are electric trolley tracks down the middle of Mill Street. The trolley was used between 1900-1932. This trolley ran from Philadelphia via Bristol to Morrisville. Bus transportation replaced the trolley in 1933. -

Lincoln was on his way to Washington D.C. for the inauguration. He addressed the crowd from the train’s observation platform. Four years later, a crown stood silently to watch his funeral train. The track is located opposite Borough Hall in Bristol Borough. -

At the bottom is U.S. Route 13. Across the top, parallel to Route 13, are the four, elevated tracks of the former Pennsylvania Railroad between Philadelphia and New York. The streets perpendicular to the railroad with underpasses are (left to right): Beaver Street just out of view, Corson Street, and Pine Street. -
[Box car filled with refrigerators for Clarence W. Winter’s store on Mill Street at Wood Street]
This was at the Pennsylvania Railroad freight yard at Pond and Mulberry Streets. Clarence Winter attended Bristol Borough schools. He and his friend Charles Strumfels went fishing in the Delaware River near Bristol in 1914. They caught a fish weighing 330 pounds and was 8 feet 6 inches long. The roe of the fish sold for $200 to a New York City restaurant. Clarence Winter operated a store at Mill and Wood Streets that sold kitchen appliances. He also sold Buick cars in a building behind the Mill Street store. -
[Pennsylvania Passenger Railroad Station at Pond and Market Street]
This station was for north bound trains. A tunnel connected this to the station for south bound trains on the opposite side of the tracks. In 1911, the station was moved when the railroad tracks were elevated and moved to Beaver and Prospect Street. -
"New P.R.R. Bride [Bridge] over Otter Crick [Creek] Bristol PA."
P.R.R. Bridge over Otter Creek. This elevated portion of the railroad was made in 1910. The arched bridge allowed Otter Creek to flow beneath the tracks. The railroad above the arch had a water trough to allow steam engines to take on water. Below the railroad in the arch, was a heater to keep the water from freezing in the winter. The track in the lower portion was only a work track and was removed once the project was complete. -

Bristol’s Pennsylvania Railroad Station at Prospect and Beaver Street opened November 1911, following the elevation of tracks through the town. Track level buildings had been removed and replaced by smaller covered waiting platforms. The ground level office was restored and has been a coffee/sandwich shop (2002) and a child care facility (2019). -

Former PA Railroad freight station. It was facing Pond and Mulberry Streets. The photographer was standing on Beaver Street. Photograph must have been taken before 1927 due to the current (2019) municipal building is missing. Where the freight station is standing is now, the Grundy Towers apartment complex was built in the 1970s. At the bottom of the photograph is the site the Snyder-Girotti Elementary School was built on. -

This photograph would have been taken on top of the Fire Company No. 2 building at Pond and Mulberry Streets. To the right is the southbound passenger station and opposite is the northbound station. There was a tunnel that connected the two buildings. The path of the railroad was moved and elevated near Beaver and Prospect Street. -

Photograph taken between 1910-1911 during the construction of the elevated railroad. The bridge crossed the Delaware Canal at the edge of the Delaware Canal Lagoon. The wooden supports for the tracks were later filled with an embankment of soil. The steam engine and cars were used to haul soil and equipment for the railroad.
