Description

Administrative/Biographical History:
The Bristol Jewish Center was founded in 1904 by ten Jewish families that initially held religious services in the rear of a tailor shop on Mill Street. In 1917 the synagogue bought a building at 119 Pond Street and remained there until 1949 when four Jewish families donated land at 216 Pond Street for the building of a larger sanctuary for the growing Jewish population in Bristol between World War I and the end of World War II. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, the synagogue underwent several changes, including; becoming an Adult Synagogue, affiliating with the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia, and furthering the roles of women in the synagogue with a female Rabbi. In 2015, the Bristol Jewish Center’s Bristol location closed and completely merged with the Kol Emet Congregation in Yardley Pennsylvania, where they now serve as one entity.
