Description

Scrapbook catalogues pieces of Bristol history from roughly 1928 to 1995. The collection includes news clippings from the investigation surrounding the death of Carol Ann Dougherty, past Bristol Day events, and notable mentions of Bristol Borough in local newspapers. The scrapbook also holds photocopies of report cards, yearbook pages, and possibly pages of a school newspaper from 1927 to 1932 from Bristol Senior High School. There are also two report cards from Bath Street in 1924. These both are accredited to Ester E. Louderbough.
Esther Elizabeth Louderbough, also known as Esther Meyers, was born on the 17th of February 1914, to her parents at 572 Bath Street in Bristol, Pennsylvania. She attended the local Presbyterian Sunday School, as well as the Bath Street school, and was a relatively social child, often hosting or attending events. She went to Bristol High School, served as an editor on the school’s newspaper, and graduated in 1932, receiving third honors. She then went on to study at West Chester State Teachers College, however, left in her second year. She married Fenwick Meyers on September 6th, 1936, in Delaware, New Jersey, and soon after had their child, Ruth Meyers, on the 11th of October 1937. Esther was quite active in her communities throughout her life, however, in the 70’s she was an outspoken feminist, publishing statements in the local newspapers as well as reverting to her maiden name. She died on April 26th, 2007, at the age of 93.
