Photograph was taken on Jefferson Avenue near Pond Street. The property where the man sits is approximately where St. Ann Convent and School were located (as of 1998). In the background is the large house that was removed to build Jefferson Avenue School in 1909.
John Schafer (photographer) and his wife Anna (1874-1929) lived at 536 Swain Street. Their daughter Ethel Schafer Phillips (1900-1980) also resided at that home address.

Concrete bridge built in 1929 to replace 1827 wooden bridge over the Delaware Canal at Beaver Street. Known as the Forge Bridge, it was removed in 1960 when the canal was filled with soil. Photograph says house in the background belonged to a sea-captain.
